Course of activity

step 1

Students will go on a treasure hunt around the school looking for different filters that are already in place - e.g. fans, masks, extractors, coffee filters, etc.

step 2

Students will then examine different face masks, trying to work out who would wear them, where and why.

step 3

A construction industry visitor will come to talk about mask wearing in relation to Health & Safety. They will explain different circumstances where a mask may be worn, and how they can be used to filter out the air pollution we would otherwise breathe.

step 4

Students will draw diagrams of the different masks and add any information from the visitor in the form of a poster. They should relate this to their work on lungs as filters in Learning Unit 2.
