Course of activity

step 1

Students will explore what it means to create a physical representation of an idea. They will look at examples such as videos, museum exhibits and sculptures.

step 2

  1. Next, they will learn what 'viewer involvement' means in art (a situation where viewers influence, and are influenced by, the artwork). The expert will give examples from the works of the Japanese collective TeamLab. Students will participate in one of the collective's two virtual works and discuss the sensory experience of the exhibition, for example:
  • The ‘Flowers Bombing Home’ uses YouTube Live to watch drawings from people all over the world bloom and explode on your screen.
  • Download the drawing paper here, choose one of the flowers and colour it in.
  • Upload the flower online and watch it appear on the screen, along with contributions from others around the world.
